COSLA Strategic Migration Partnership will seek to achieve our vision through the following strategic objectives:
1. Develop our tripartite approach to migration, working between local government, Scottish Government and UK Border Agency.
2. Develop an evidence base on the impact of migration in order to enhance the public policy response to migration in Scotland.
3. Support and promote local politicians’ role in shaping public attitudes to migration.
4. Promote a partnership approach to responding to migration in all its forms across the public, private and voluntary sectors in Scotland.
5. Continue to support local authorities and their community planning partners to develop a strategic approach to migration that meets their local needs.
6. Continue to support local authorities to better understand their migrant populations and their rights and entitlements, and to respond accordingly.
7. Support local government involvement in providing humanitarian protection (e.g. COMPASS, Gateway and supporting UASCs).
8. Work with UK Border Agency, Scottish Government and other relevant agencies to tackle issues that threaten the wellbeing and safety of Scottish communities.
